How-to/Gallery Tasks/Create a QR Code

Create a QR Code

Use the Admin Dashobard to create a QR code which will direct users to the appropriate AccessKit content.

Each Work set up with AccessKit comes with its own unique QR Code so that visitors can easily find the accessible content by simply scanning the QR Code with their own personal mobile device. After scanning the QR Code, the visitor will be redirected to the Work's Guest View page, where they can view the Work's accessible content such as captions, audio descriptions, and transcriptions.

QR Codes are an integral part of any modern gallery space. They supply a digital pathway linking to relevant information, and working to deepen relationships between viewers, artworks, artists, and institutions.

Using a QR Code

Find the QR Code

You can download the pre-generated QR Code by visiting the configuration page for the Work, which you can navigate to via the the Admin Dashboard home page. Find the Work in the list of Works and click on the [edit] button next to its name; then scroll to the bottom of the form.

You can use the exact same process to download the QR Code for any Exhibition in your AccessKit account. The QR Code will link to the Exhibition's Guest View page, which includes a list of all the Works in the Exhibition which are Published.

Download the QR Code

Scroll to the bottom of the Work's configuration page and click on the

Download QR Code button. This will trigger a download of a .png file containing the QR Code image, which you can print out and deploy in your gallery space.

Deploy the QR Code

Print out the QR Code and place it in a prominent location in your gallery space.

It's up to you to decide how to deploy the QR Code in your gallery space.

Below are some example of QR Code placement and orientation to create a streamlined interaction between the art on display and its detailed web presence:

  • Included with main wall text, linking to Exhibition Guest View page
  • Included on wall placard corresponding to individual artwork, linking to Work Guest View page
  • Separate call-out sticker next to artwork, linking to Work Guest View page
  • Floor sticker, linking to Work Guest View page

We also recommend including some basic copy accompanying your AccessKit QR Code, such as:

A frictionless and immersive synchronized viewing experience across a range of accessibility and language needs.

Test the QR Code

Verify that the QR Code is working by scanning it with your mobile device and ensuring it takes you to the Work's Guest View page and you see synchronized captions.

Warning: If you see a message saying that the Work was not found, be sure to make sure that the Work is published.

Alternatively, if you want to test the QR Code without publishing the Work, just make sure that you have logged in to AccessKit using your mobile device. AccessKit account holders can always view all Works in their account, regardless of whether they are published or not.

Other methods of connecting users to content

Instead of using a QR Code, you can also connect users to various pages in AccessKit by simply embedding direct links to the Exhibition or Work's Guest View page in you pre-existing mobile guides, or by even using IFrame embeds of AccessKit inside of your mobile guides. To learn more about these methods, check out the guide on how to direct users to content and how to integrate with existing mobile guides.
